The final chapter of The China Study by prof Colin T Campbell is a great précis on how theory from various livestock and dairy industries influences public health research and even WHO recommendations. It’s a boys club and if you don’t play ball for ranchers and dairy by denying the links to heart disease and cancer and all the other Western disease epidemics then you get to “fall on you petard”. Written by one of the best public health scientist ever.

Not sure why that is. He was a very important figure in the Cold War, in that he was a.) a principled anti-Stalinist b.) a good writer c.) on the Left and d.) safely dead. What’s going on now, I couldn’t summarise … It’s strange though, his afterlife, you’re right.

What’s the deal with Orwell anyway? He was a good writer, but why does everyone feel the need to set him up as some paragon of wisdom and righteousness?
