Yesterday on the Today programme on Radio 4 the Conservative MP Bernard Jenkin could be heard fretting about the politics of envy. In the course of his free-wheeling denunciation of the idea of a wealth tax he explained that:
We’ve seen a lot of hedge funds moving abroad because of the tax system in this country. We’ve got to be careful we don’t strangle the goose that lays the golden egg.
Of course in the real world geese don’t lay golden eggs. And hedge funds don’t create wealth
